Scientology Myths - what is fact? what is fiction?

Ethics / Justice

ethics: the study of the general nature of morals and of the specific moral choices to be made by the individual in his relationship with others. Ethics is a personal thing. It is the actions the person takes on himself. When one is ethical, it is something he does himself by his own choice.

morals: a code of good conduct laid down out of the experience of the race to serve as a uniform yardstick for the conduct of individuals and groups.

Compare to:

justice: The basic idea behind Scientology justice is as simple and rational as the underlying theory of Scientology ethics. Justice exists to protect decent people. It is only being applied amongst Scientologists and consists of rules and procedures to find out what has gone wrong and how to correct it.

Punishment is not a factor in Scientology justice, since it has long been proven in society that punishment more often than not simply hardens the punished person into patterns of destructive behavior. Instead, those guilty of ecclesiastical offenses are instructed to make amends for any damage done by their actions, perform what amounts to community service on behalf of those wronged, and other such actions. In this wise, Scientology justice helps an individual apply ethics to himself and his activities.

The exclusion from Scientology is the harshest judgment faced by any Scientologist for it effectively bars any further progress on the Bridge. Once expelled, the person must go his own way and sort out his life without further communication, assistance or guidance from the Church, which is extremely busy giving its help to those who honestly desire it.

Bridge: the sequence of activities done to gradually achieve the states of existence called Clear and OT.

Clear: the name of a state achieved through auditing or an individual who has achieved this state. A Clear is a being who no longer is affected by past traumas and grief. A Clear is rational in that he forms the best possible solutions he can on the data he has and from his viewpoint.

Operating Thetan (OT): it is a state of beingness. It is a being “at cause over matter, energy, space, time, form and life.” Operating comes from “able to operate without dependency on things,” and Thetan is the Greek letter Theta (), which the Greeks used to represent thought or perhaps spirit, to which an n is added to make a noun in the modern style used to create words in engineering. Abbreviation: OT.
